The Soft Hollow-Core Polyester Fibre comes in a 2kg / 4.4lbs bag. The benefit the Soft Hollow-Core Polyester Fibre is that it is possible to remove some of the fibre for particular pressure care and individual patient care.

Benefits of Micro-Fibre over Polystyrene Beads

When removing some of the filling, the hollow-core fibre does not move or migrate, unlike micro-polystyrene beans which move to fill the gap. Polyester is also cooler and softer next to the body compared to foam or micro-polystyrene beads. There is no noise from the hollow-core fibre, so if a patient’s head is resting on a Cushion, it will be quiet.

To Use

Open the bag and take as much fibre as required. Reseal the bag to stop any insects, dirt or dust getting into the fibre.

Vented Overlay Pad

The Vented Overlay Pad is a breathable, washable foam overlay used on a bed. Inside the Pad is a special foam sheet that has ventilation holes to allow air to flow through. This helps regulate body temperature – some people call this ‘Thermoneutral’. The fabric cover is designed to wick moisture away from the body. This type of material is sometimes used in sportswear.

As part of the Pelican Sleep System, the Vented Overlay Pad is compatible with positioning items such as the Sleep System Positioning Sheet, Body Brackets, and Wedges. It is big enough to allow the hip and shoulders to be on the Pad, and to reach across the bed to allow Wedges or Body Brackets to be placed under it.

Also available: Vented Overlay Pad – Small – TR. This smaller 60cm x 20cm (23.6″ x 7.8″) version is for use on chairs, car seats, etc., and has a Thermoregulating Material cover.

To Use

Always consult your Therapist before using. Lay the Vented Overlay Pad across the bed where the Patient’s hips and shoulders will be lying on it.

If using the Overlay Pad with the Sleep System Positioning Sheet and Body Brackets or Wedges, slightly tilt the Patient to apply the Brackets/Wedges to one side of them, then tilt their other side to place the Brackets/Wedges on the opposite side.

Pelican’s Sleep System Positioning Cushions, and Soft Hollow-Core Polyester Fibre (sold separately), come packed in a reusable vacuum-seal bag, to reduce the size for delivery, and make it easier to take different cushions in a car. After taking it out of the bag, the cushion will inflate. If a vacuum cleaner is available, the cushion can be deflated again to pack flat.

To Use

Align the cut-out over the vacuum valve then gently press down on the Board, applying pressure as the air is vacuumed out of the bag. Do not force air out of the Cushion – just let the vacuum cleaner do the work.
